From the Border to the Boardroom: A 2D1N Leadership Retreat with MINDS Towner Garden School

A successful leadership retreat isn’t just about getting out of the office; it’s about getting into the right mindset.

This leadership retreat case study shares how Teamup Event partnered with MINDS Towner Garden School to design a focused 2D1N retreat that strengthened communication, trust, and alignment among their leadership team.

Teamup Event had the privilege of expanding our partnership with the MINDS ecosystem. After a successful 60-pax team building with MINDS SG Ltd in 2025, we were honored to be engaged again in 2026 and this time by MINDS Towner Gardens School (MINDS TGS) for a focused, high-level session.

This year, the mission was different: A 2D1N Leadership Retreat for 14 of their key leaders at the serene Pulai Springs Resort in Johor.

Leadership Retreat: Managing logistics from Singapore to Johor

The hallmark of a seasoned corporate event organizer is the ability to make complex logistics feel invisible. The journey began at the crack of dawn at the MINDS office. While the city was still waking up, our team was already in motion, coordinating the land transport for a smooth cross-border transition.

We know that a long journey on an empty stomach is no way to start a retreat. Before diving into the agenda, we curated a breakfast stop at Nimmies Pastry Café. There’s something about the smell of fresh coffee and artisanal pastries that breaks down the “office walls.” It allowed the 14 leaders to decompress and start the morning with genuine conversation and a chance to bond casually before we even checked into Pulai Springs Resort.

Experiential Learning: Facilitating The “Lessons” Through Play

Once we settled into the resort, we moved into the core of the retreat: the experiential learning modules. As a corporate event organizer, we don’t just “play games.” We create environments where leadership flaws and strengths can surface safely.

We facilitated some distinct modules that challenged the group in different ways:

  1. The Communication Breakdown: How to navigate objectives where information is limited. It highlighted how easily a “vision” can get lost when it moves from the top down.
  2. Manners in the Chaos: This was about professional integrity. When things get heated and timelines are tight, do you stay respectful? The leaders practiced maintaining their composure and respect even when the “game” got chaotic and stressful.
  3. The Blind Trust Exercise: We placed the team in positions where they had no choice but to rely on their colleagues’ expertise. It was a powerful reminder that leadership isn’t about doing everything—it’s about trusting the person next to you.

Strategic Depth: From Activity to Action

By 3:00 PM, the energy shifted from the physical to the strategic. One of the benefits of having a corporate retreat organizer handle the logistics is that the client arrives at their meeting session (3 PM – 6 PM) refreshed and focused, rather than drained by travel stress.

The day ended on a high note with a BBQ Buffet dinner. While some members headed back to Singapore that evening, others took the chance to explore the local shopping scene—a vital “reset” button that allows leaders to bond outside of a structured environment.

Why a 2-Year Partnership Matters?

Our return to MINDS Towner Garden School for this 2026 retreat is a point of pride for us. Moving from a large-scale 60-pax event to this focused 14-pax leadership session shows a deep level of trust. It proves that whether we are managing a crowd or a small executive committee, our commitment as a corporate event organizer remains the same: Zero compromise on the experience.

As we officially wrapped up the retreat back at the MINDS office on Day 2, the feedback was clear. It wasn’t just a trip to Johor; it was a step forward for the team.
